The International Max Planck Research Schools (IMPRS) are a special instrument for training doctoral candidates. Located at selected MPI with exceptional conditions, the IMPRS offer structured Ph.D. programs in English that provide the candidates with excellent educational and research possibilities as a result of the cooperation between Max Planck Institutes and universities.

The Max Planck Society does not have a central procedure or a central location for awarding fellowships for doctoral candidates. Each individual Max Plank Institute or International Max Planck Research School is responsible for selecting candidates. Interested university graduates have to contact the individual Institutes of the Max Planck SocietyMax-Planck-Institute or International Max Planck Research SchoolsInternational Max Planck Research Schools that work in the area relevant to their academic profile.

  9. I am a postdoc and would like to carry out a research project at a MPI. Where is this possible? How can I apply?

  11. How does one become a leader of an Independent Junior Research Group at an MPI?

  12. The positions for leaders of Independent Junior Research Groups are announced internationally in science magazines. The research area of the future Junior Research Group and further information regarding application are published there, usually with a reference to Internet addresses for further information. A commission that is appointed and directed by the responsible vice president makes the selection. The selected scientist is invited to talk over the appointment with the Secretary General of the Max Planck Society.
