In the framework of the "Emmy Noether" group, the Max-Planck-Institut
für Chemische Physik fester Stoffe (Max Planck Institute for Chemical
Physics of Solids; MPI CPfS) in Dresden has an opening for
a Postdoc position
and
for
a PhD position
in the field of theoretical solid state
physics.
The scientific scope of the research
is the description of phase transitions in physically complex behaving
compounds with competing interactions. The goal of the research project
is the improvement of the description of real systems with strong electron
correlations starting from density functional theory. This band structure
approach shall be joined by a subsequent description in terms of many body
model Hamiltonians. The results shall be applied to compounds recently
synthesized at our institute. The work will be in close collaboration with
the Inorganic Chemistry, the Chemical Metals Science and the Solid State
Physics research fields of the MPI CPfS.
Experience with numerical work (especially
Fortran) and Linux is desirable.
Candidates with interdisciplinary research
interests and a degree (MSc, Diplom) in the fields of solid state physics
and/or chemistry are welcome to apply. Applications including a CV, a
short statement of research interests and a list of publications should
be send to the address below. Applications will be accepted until positions
are filled.
