Curriculum Vitae

1997-2002: Diploma in chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy, University of Leipzig, Germany. Investigation of crystal structures of Zinc amino alkoxides and their catalytic activities in CO2 epoxide copolymerisation reactions.
2002-2006: Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) in chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy, University of Leipzig, Germany. Synthesis, Crystal Structures and Properties of Coordination Polymers by Combination of Bipyrazole and Aromatic Dicarboxylate Ligands.
Since 2006: Research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, Dresden, Germany.

Research Interests

  • Development and optimization of preparation routes

  • Structure-property relations in solid materials

  • Automated application of combinations of complementary analytical methods for crystal structure determinations

  • Synthesis and properties of crystalline microporous inorganic and hybrid materials

Research Focus

Synthesis, crystal structures and properties of RE chalcogenoborates

In our search for new and challenging RE containing systems we came across the RE thio- and selenoborates which, in fact, are nearly unexplored. More informations about that topic are presented on the  RE chalcogenoborate page.

Investigations in low-melting intermetallic systems and solder alloys

Although fusible alloys are widely used, e.g. in soldering, casting and safety appliances, there is still much research needed to understand their chemical and physical behaviour. Additionally, we develop several experimental methods for the design of special microstructures within these materials.

Development of preparation routes

Due to specific properties of the chemical systems within our scope of research, further development of synthesis techniques is required, e.g. ultra-high-temperature autoclaves and ultrasonic synthesis in molten salts and metal melts.

Software development

For realization and/or automation of analytical methods for solving more complex problems we implement appropriate software, e.g. parallelized structure refinement codes based on X-ray/Neutron diffraction coupled with atomistic simulation methods.
