Oxidative Combustion Coupled with Ion Chromatography (CIC)

Method
The oxidative combustion system in connection with ion chromatography enables the rapid qualitative and quantitative determination of halides in solid materials. For this, the solid to be investigated is combusted in an oxygen/argon atmosphere. The emerging gases are trapped by an absorption solution spiked with an internal standard and afterwards directly injected into the ion chromatography - setup. The combustion process is controlled by a temperature program (Tmax. approximately 1100°C) in order to achieve optimal combustion. The calibration succeeds with series of liquid standards containing an internal standard.

Sample preparation
Minor sample preparation required.

Required amount of sample
Quantities of approximately 10 – 50 mg for major, minor, and trace components are required.

Instrumentation
AQF-100, GA-100, WS-100 (Mitsubishi Chemical, a1 envirotech):
Combustion unit connected with gas absorption unit;
ICS-1000 (Dionex):
Ion chromatograph
